Bigger flat top from Potain

Potain has launched a new high capacity flat top tower crane, the 50 tonne MCT 1005. It will be the largest flat top crane produced at the Potain plant in China, topping the current 40 tonne MCT 805 which the company launched last year.

The new crane has an 80 metre jib with a jib tip capacity of eight tonnes, and a choice of three counter jib options – 15, 17.5 and 20 metres- to suit various job sites and conditions. The jib length can be configured from 20 to 80 metres using five or 10 metre sections.

The 50 tonne rating is achievable at a radius of between 3.5 and 16.8 metres when the full jib is installed, or up to 25.2 metres on a 30 metre jib, while 24.8 tonnes is possible on the 45 metre jib length.

When installed on Potain’s 850 - 2.45 metre square tower, the crane has a freestanding hook height of 69.7 metres, while only four tie in frames are required to achieve a hook height of 218 metres.

Other features include the company’s V140S vision cab, and a 165kW 220 LVFC 125 hoist, which provides a maximum lift speed of 88 metres a minute with up to 6.5 tonnes, or 16 metres a minute with the maximum 50 tonnes. Maximum rope storage is 1,070 metres. The 25 DVFC 25 trolley and RVF 174 Optima+ slew system are standard.

The crane will be manufactured at the Potain facility in Zhangjiagang, with shipments scheduled to begin in June.

Regional product manager Leong Kwong-Joon said: flat top cranes are: “ideal for large infrastructure projects or modular developments, plus a host of other applications – and with the Potain MCT 1005 M50 we’ve created a model with a vast range of jib lengths and capacities.”
