New location and crane for NMT

UK rental company NMT Crane Hire has moved into its new headquarters and taken delivery of a 500 tonne Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1 All Terrain crane.

The eight axle crane features a seven section, 84 metre main boom plus Y Guy superlift system, and can be equipped with a 91 metre luffing jib or a 56 metre fixed jib. It will be based at NMT's new £2 million facility in Kempston, Bedford, a short distance from its original premises at Marston Moretaine.

The new premises include the second longest inspection pit in the country and a rolling road brake tester for axle loads up to 20 tonnes. The offices are equipped with some of the latest live screen daybook and CAD facilities all of which are intended to improve efficiency and customer service. It adds to the company's other depots in Bedford, Heathrow and Birmingham.

The company - run by owners Nick, Mark and Tim Ambridge - began in 1976 doing heavy breakdown and recovery work, using a breakdown truck with an old Tunny crane on the back, and an even older Coles Victor lattice crane. It moved into the heavy crane market in 1993 with a 200 tonne Demag All Terrain. The next step up was to 350 tonnes in 2004. The next step came in 2015 with the arrival of the 700 tonne Terex AC700. The new 500 tonner fills a gap between the 400 tonne Terex AC400 and 700 tonne AC700.

NMT has also issued a public statement following an incident involving one of its six axle Spierings cranes on Saturday morning, when a crane tipped into a building in Reading. Thankfully nobody was hurt.

Director Tim Ambridge said: "As you will be aware we had every crane company's worst nightmare occur in Reading at the weekend. I would like to say a big thank you to the quick, and no questions asked response of the entire NMT team involved on Saturday night, in conditions that were horrendous in heavy torrential rain. I am so very proud that you work for NMT."

Hi Tim
A very nice new machine indeed, and good of you to praise the crew to recover the Spierings, but what actually happened .
