Summit installs defibrillators

UK access rental company Summit Platforms has installed automated external defibrillators in prominent locations at its 10 depots which are located from Glasgow, Scotland in the north, to Portsmouth in the south.

According to the British Heart Foundation, less than one in 10 people survive a sudden cardiac arrest that occurs away from a hospital, while defibrillators can save the life of a person having a sudden cardiac arrest by automatically analysing the disrupted rhythm of the heart and delivering a controlled electric shock to restore it.
Thousands of lives are saved each year by such defibrillators, as long as they can be reached quickly and easily. And, as in this case are designed to be administered by people with minimal or no training.

Summit Platforms’ Steve Williams said: “The health, safety and wellbeing of our teams and customers has always been a priority. More than 60,000 people a year suffer a sudden cardiac arrest, most without realising they were at risk of such an event. That’s why we have installed these devices in our depots. They are likely to make the difference between life and death.”
“The defibrillators are installed in visible areas at each depot so that they can be easily accessed. Our depot managers and first aiders will ensure everyone across the company is aware of the defibrillators and view the training video, so they can be used quickly in case of an emergency. We will also inform neighbouring businesses at each depot that the devices are available, so we can support others nearby.”

The UK’s National Institute of Healthcare Excellence says defibrillating a patient within three to five minutes of collapse can increase survival rates to up to 70 percent.
