New MD for SaFed

The UK Safety Assessment Federation (SAFed) has appointed Peter Milton, managing director of HSB Engineering Insurance Services as its new chairman, following five years as a board member.

SAFed represents the UK’s independent engineering inspection and certification companies and works closely with government and other safety organisations such as the HSE, UKAS, and the equivalent Irish and EU authorities.

SAFed chief executive Richard Hulmes said: “I am delighted to have Peter as our new chairman, where his depth of knowledge and considerable experience of our industry will be invaluable to SAFed and its members. We are both committed in our belief that independent inspection by accredited engineering inspectors will continue to deliver cost effective safety in the workplace for many years to come.”

Milton added: “SAFed continues to be a leader in the delivery of safety in the workplace, with our member companies undertaking over 5 million inspections of workplace equipment annually. Each year hundreds of thousands of defects are detected, preventing countless accidents from occurring. With the current Löfstedt review into the HSE underway, I am looking forward to dealing with a considerable number of new challenges over the coming months.”
