Record gantry crane order for Terex
Terex Port Solutions has received an order for 26 Rubber-Tyred Gantry cranes - the largest order in the company’s history.
Malaysian terminal operator Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) has ordered the cranes, set for delivery in April next year, with an option to increase the order by an additional 32 cranes.
The 50 tonne capacity cranes, which will be manufactured at Terex Port Solutions’ facility in Xiamen, China, have a one over five configuration and can stack up to seven up to seven containers wide. Electrically powered using the terminal’s external busbar system they offer gantry speeds of up to 136 metres per minute and trolley speeds of up to 70 metres a minute.

The company said the expansion of its terminal, which it claims is the largest container terminal in Malaysia, has resulted in the order. The new cranes will be used on the two new quays and nine new container stockyards currently under construction.
Glen Hilton, chief executive of PTP, said: “The rubber-tyred gantry cranes made by Terex Port Solutions are recognised in the market as being high-performance, robust machines that also considerably cut costs in both operation and maintenance. By expanding our terminal we aim to increase container-handling volumes by a further 25 percent and the new cranes will play a key role in this context.”
