Two die in man basket fall
Two construction workers died on Friday in the town of Winters, near Sacramento, California, when a man-basket broke free from a crane and dropped over 20 metres into an excavation on a bridge construction project.
Osha is investigating and says that at first glance it looks like a hook failure might have been the cause of the incident. The basket was being lifted by one of the two conventional crawler cranes working on the site.
The two men were employed by main contractor Disney Construction of Burlingame and were working on the foundations for a new bridge over Putah Creek, replacing the original one built in 1907.
