Crane art
Karlsruhe, Germany has opened its summer arts festival featuring a number of large scale sculptures and performance arts, organised by the ZKM centre for art and media.
The cultural centre is looking to "extend the aesthetics of the everyday, and so-called mundane and poor materials, to the city’s construction sites, in a bid to change people’s perception of typically overlooked plots".
At the heart of the exhibition is Leandro Erlich‘s piece - ‘Pulled by the Roots’. The Argentinian artist has taken a tower crane and showing it lifting a house over the city’s main marketplace. The house matches those in the square, but underneath it has a massive root system, making it look as though the crane simply uprooted the house from its permanent location.

A house pulled up by the roots in Karlsruhe, Germany
‘Pulled by the Roots’ is intended to address global themes, including uprooting, migration and simulation. At first glance it looks as though the crane operator has made an error and lifted a the house from its base. The ehibits will be on show until 27th September
