New 300 tonner for KVN
German crane rental company KVN Autokrane has taken delivery of a new 300 tonne Liebherr LTM 1300-6.2 All Terrain crane.
The new crane, was purchased for work involving the replacement of electricity pylons, and went straight to work on a job in a field in Vechelde, near Brunswick, Lower Saxony.
The heaviest single component was the lower part of the new tower, weighing 27 tonnes. KVN rigged the new single engine crane with 56 tonnes of basic counterweight and its 5.5 metre assembly jib on top of a boom telescoped to 63.3 metres. The load was then lifted into place at a radius of 18 metres.

A 60 tonne Liebherr LTF 1060-4.1 truck crane was also present as an auxiliary crane. Once the new electricity pylon was installed, the power lines were moved from the old pylon to the new and the LTM 1300-6.2. then dismantled the old one.
KVN commercial director Kai Giesker said: "We bought the LTM 1300-6.2 especially for the construction of new pylons, and with the latest ones being larger, our 200 tonne LTM 1200-5.1 had reached its limits for this application. The existing overhead power lines are no longer sufficient and new transmission lines must be built from north to south. We see good medium-term prospects for mobile crane operations for this work."
"We also view the new Liebherr single engine design very positively. If Liebherr has new ideas, we are confident that they will prevail on the market. We aim to support these new technologies right from the start."
KVN is based in Osnabrück, and is part of the Brinkhege Group, its fleet of 18 mobile cranes, include three heavy Liebherr cranes, including a 750 tonne LR 1750, and 600 tonne LR 1600/2 crawler cranes and a 1,200 tonne LTM 11200-9.1 All Terrain. All three are used throughout Europe in the wind power industry.
