Fatal boom overturn
A man died on Monday after the boom lift he was using overturned in Taunton, Massachusetts.
The man, 48, was using a Genie 65 or 85, owned by NES, to inspect a chimney at a school in the town when it appears to have gone over backwards as he boomed up to maximum elevation with a short boom while working on a slope. The man was employed by local contractor Skytline Contracting and Roofing.
OSHA is investigating the incident and confirmed that it had been reported as a fatal construction accident. A wrecker truck was quickly called in to pull the stricken boom lift back on to four wheels and then lift it onto and NES truck.
We will report when we hear any further news, but at this stage this looks like a case of operating the machine on an excessive slope with the machine in its least stable configuration.
