Three fall from crane

Three men have been injured after falling from a “crane cradle” at Lisahally Docks in Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland earlier today.

The men fell between five and six metres into the hold of a ship, two were seriously injured, while another was described by the ambulance service as walking wounded

The Londonderry Port and Harbour Commissioners issued a statement that said: “We are aware of an incident at Lisahally Terminal this morning. Three contractors have suffered a fall in the hold of a ship during a lifting operation. Emergency services responded and the men are currently being treated in hospital for their injuries. We will be carrying out an investigation into what has taken place.”

The Health & Safety Executive of Northern Ireland has also said that it will investigate. Most of the craneage at the port consists of mobile harbour cranes.
