Tower crane failure
A tower crane broke in two on Friday, landing on a house under construction in the town of Kreuth –Plötzlich, Southern Bavaria, in Germany.
The tower of aging self-erecting crane - which has a two section tower and a jib of around 25 metres – appears to have fractured just above the lower supports. The local fire service has indicated that metal fatigue almost certainly played a role in the failure.
Thankfully no was injured in the incident and damage was restricted to the new building. Removing the crane proved a challenge and the emergency services called on a local crane rental company to assist.
