Mobile Portal harbour crane for Rotterdam
The Kramer Group has taken delivery of a new diesel-electric Terex-Gottwald G HRK 2304 rubber-tyred portal harbour crane at its terminal in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
The new crane type combines the mobility of a conventional mobile harbour crane with the advantages of a portal version, it boasts a maximum capacity of 80 tonne, a maximum radius of 40 metres and a maximum hoist speed of 85 metres a minute. Kramer will use the crane to handle full and empty containers on feeder vessels and river barges. The cranes has a portal clearance width of 9.5 metres and a clearance height of six metres, allowing most traffic to easily pass beneath.

Kramer chief executive André Kramer said: “The new crane is tailored precisely to our requirements. We were especially pleased with the cost-effectiveness of the diesel-electric drive system and the rubber-tyred portal with clearance, which makes our terminal operation particularly flexible. We were also impressed by the short delivery time and fast commissioning of the machine.”
Andreas Moeller, Terex sales director mobile harbour cranes added: “Thanks to the portal solution, the portal harbour crane allows traffic flow to continue in the Kramer terminal, even during container handling. Tight turning circles, crab steering and the ability to turn on the spot, make the crane easy to manoeuver, allowing it to be positioned quickly alongside the ship. Model 2 cranes were specifically developed for river and maritime ports with narrow quays”.
