The Aktogay copper mine is a large new open cast operation, owned and operated by KAZ Minerals. The project will initially produce oxide copper cathode, moving onto sulphide copper in concentrate by 2017, which will be processed at a concentrator currently under construction on the site. The lifts will be used to construct the concentrator plant and then possibly retained for maintenance work. The overall project is expected to cost in the region of $2.3 billion.
