GGR’s training centre takes shape

UK mini crane and glass handling group GGR will open a new training centre this summer, with the new structure now watertight.

The training centre is attached to the group’s Oldham headquarters- built just five years ago, and will include a classroom, showroom and space for practical lift training.

GGR has also used a number of cranes from its own fleet to erect the new centre, including the electric powered, three tonne, 15 metre boom Unic URW-376 and 16 metre URW-506 spiders to complete the steel work, while a 1.2 tonne Starworker 1200 trailer crane with nine metre swingaway extension was used with a multi-clad lifter to lift the cladding into place.

Chris Lord, operations director at GGR, said: “It is great to see our new training centre taking shape. Our Oldham headquarters is already an official training centre for the Construction Plant Competency Scheme (CPCS), A66 mini crane course, which is a hands-on course to teach users how to safely operate mini cranes. It is also a training centre for an RTITB accredited vacuum lifting equipment course. Both courses regularly entail the use of the depot’s training area for teaching candidates; however space for this has become very limited due to our expansion.”
