Liebherr to unveil 450 tonner
Based on information gained during the Bauma build-up it would appear that Liebherr’s mystery eight axle All Terrain will be the 450 tonne LTM 1450-8.1.
The new crane looks like it has a seven section, 85 metre main boom but no Y-guy superlift system, it also features the new rotating counterweights that which rotates the two side counterweight stacks so that they extend futher over the rear, thus increasing their counterweighting effect to improve capacities, when space allows.
Word is that the maximum counterweight might be 136 tonnes, but like much of this information it has not been confirmed. The new crane uses a chassis very similar to the 500 tonne LTM 1500 but may extend Liebherr’s preference for single engine cranes.

On the Bauma stand already the new Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1
The lack of Y-guy boom support system, makes it ideal for work in confined city environments, but duties will not be as good as the LTM 1500 when rigged with Y-guy. However in areas with limited set-up and working space it may have the advantage. It will also be appealing to most of the European market which cannot run a 500 tonner with 84 metre boom in place, due to axle weight restrictions.
In order to find out what is factual and what is not, you will have to visit the stand or keep an eye on Vertikal.net which will report from the show via our twitter feed and web news.
