Potain replaces Igo with Hup

Potain unveiled the first models in its innovative Hup self-erecting tower crane range at Bauma yesterday.

The four tonne Hup 32-27, which will replace four existing Potain Igo cranes, features an adjustable two-section mast that has a third section contained within the second, with two extended it has a height of 21 metres, but with the third extension out, it offers 27 metres. The jib luffs to 10, 20 and 30 degrees above horizontal, to reach un to 40 metres under hook. Jib lengths of 11, 23 or 32 metres are available, with a 1,000kg jib tip capacity at 32 metres radius.

Tailswing is 2.25 metres, allowing it to be positioned closer to buildings and there are two footprint options, 4 x 4 metres or 3.5 x 4.42 metres, while the crane’s dynamic unfolding movement allows it to set up in congested spaces. In addition, an integrated levelling system allows for positioning on slopes up to eight percent or over height differentials of up to 250mm.

The Potain Hup 32-27

A new radio remote control unit features a large colour screen with easy-to-use navigation delivered via a jog dial, the new remote delivers simplified, on-screen step-by-step information during crane erection, as part of the new Smart Set Up software. It also offers three operating profiles which allow the operator to vary the working speed of the crane to suit the application.

The hoist unit includes Potain’s High Performance Lifting speeds, an integrated diagnostic tool and maintenance warning indicators for the trolley, hoisting and slewing mechanisms, as well as for lubrication levels.
When folded for transport, the Hup 32-27 has an overall height of four metres, and an overall length of 12 metres allowing it to fit in a standard shipping container.

The Hup 40-30 will be the second crane in the range and is likely to be ready later this year, when the first 32-27 start to ship.
