Kalmar straddle carriers for Eurogate
German based shipping operator Eurogate has ordered nine Kalmar diesel-electric straddle carriers for use in its Hamburg container terminal.
The new straddle carriers have a load capacity of up to 60 tonnes and can stack containers up to four-high. Powered by its diesel-electric engine which requires service intervals every 1,000 hours, the machines reach a speed of 26 km per hour or 24 km per hour when loaded.

The nine Kalmar diesel-electric straddle carriers will go to work at Hamburg container terminal
Based 70 miles inland from the North Sea on the River Elbe, Eurogate Container Terminal Hamburg is a modern facility that operates container gantries and straddle carriers. As a result of its current expansion the terminal’s handling capacity will rise from four million TEU- Twenty foot Equivalent Units s to six million.
Peter Zielinski managing director of the Hamburg terminal said: "Protecting the environment is a high priority and investing in Kalmar diesel-electric straddle carriers contributes to our goal of continuously reducing the company's ecological footprint by cutting fuel usage and exhaust emissions.”

Deliveries will take place towards the end of this year.
