Smart CTE secondary guarding
CTE has developed a secondary guarding/anti entrapment system for its truck mounted lifts, following a request from a UK customer through rental company Smart Platform Rental.
The device is similar in most respects to the standard electronic systems on the market in this it uses a rubber covered micro switch bar to the front of the control panel. When pressed, such as in a crushing incident the switch immediately stops all functions, sounds an alarm and sets off two red flashing beacons mounted on the underside of the platform.

When activated the machine can only be operated by using the emergency lower controls to lower the platform. The system can be reset by releasing the dead man pedal and re applying it. Smart Rent has said that it will roll out the device across to all of its CTE fleet.
A statement from CTE said: “We believe that this additional, secondary device will increase safety for the operator, but in line with the guidance from industry bodies and the HSE, the device does not remove the need for competent trained operators, equipment familiarisation, risk assessment, adequate planning and management of the works to be completed.”
