Two Quaymates for Korea

South Korean logistics service provider C J Korea Express has ordered two new 50 tonne Terex Quaymate M50 mobile harbour cranes.

The new diesel-electric cranes feature a 36 metre maximum radius with 50 metres a minute hoisting speeds and follow the delivery of Express’ first M50 in March. Designed as an entry model for small maritime and river ports, the new machines will be manufactured at Terex Port Solution’s plant in Xiamen, China using components both from Asia and Europe.

Additional features include a cable reel and electric hook rotator for operation with automatic spreaders for container handling and motor grabs for bulk and scrap handling.

Based in Seoul, South Korea, C J Korea Express has provided logistics infrastructure and marine transportation since 1930. It works from 78 locations in 22 countries and employs around 5,300.

Maurizio Altieri of Terex Port Xiamen said: “The handling machine was developed by engineering teams from western Europe and Asia on the basis of the proven Terex Gottwald design philosophy. Here the focus was on the requirements of different terminals in Asia, as well as in other regions of the world. With the crane, small terminals can, for example, replace non-port machines, such as excavators or telescopic and conventional mobile cranes, make their cargo handling more cost-effective and develop new applications. Established terminal operators such as Korea Express, on the other hand, can supplement their existing fleet in a dedicated manner with the Quaymate M50 crane.”

D. S. Kim of Korea Express added: “In the past few years, our Terex Gottwald mobile harbour cranes have made a major contribution to effective container and general cargo handling in our terminals. Our positive experience with operating these machines has been a crucial factor in our decision to opt again for mobile harbour crane technology from Terex.”
