Magni for Stornaway

Stornaway Port Authority on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides - or Western Isles - has taken delivery of a new 20 metre/five tonne Magni RTH 5.21 Smart telehandler.

The new 360 degree telehandler, can handle 2.5 tonnes with its four section 20.7 metre boom fully extended, with a clear forward reach of 17 metres. Powered by Deutz, the RTH 5.21 has a road speed of up to 44kph, and an overall width of 2.5 metres and length of 6.5 metres. Attachments include winches hooks, jibs, forks and working platforms.

The port’s Harbour Master Roy Maclean said: “We needed a machine that allowed my operators to perform a range of tasks in and around the port. The operators love the ease of use, the excellent safety features and they find the spacious cab a very pleasant place to be. We use the machine with a man basket for everything from maintaining the passenger gangway and ice processor to changing street light bulbs. We also find the winch very useful and have refitted boat engines and lowered goods onto boats whilst they are still in the water. The operators also love the remote control and we have performed all our winch operations whilst outside of the machine giving a clear view of the lift”.

The Isle of Lewis is around 30 miles off the North West coast of Scotland, Stornaway is the main seaport for the Hebrides. Cargos include cement, coal, diesel, gas, steel and road salt, whilst the port harbour also features a ferry and cruise line terminal.
