Chinese plant for Wacker Neuson

Compact equipment and telehandler manufacturer Wacker Neuson is to open a new plant in Pinghu about 30 km from Shanghai, China, initially to build compact excavators for the local market, but other products will follow.

The facility, located on a 135,000 square metre plot of ground, will include 30,000 square metres of building to include manufacturing, research and development, quality management, logistics, service and training. Construction is planned to start later this year, with completion anticipated for the end of 2017.

The first production units are expected to come off line in early 2018.
Once the plant is fully functioning it will also start to export to other Asian markets with products tailored to meet local requirements. Chief executive Cem Peksaglam signed the relevant contracts on site last Friday.

Peksaglam said: “We have finally decided for the Pinghu location in Zhejiang Province, which best fulfills our requirements and the support of the local authorities is outstanding. We are continuing our strategy of internationalisation with this step. In the largest construction machine market in the world we underline our commitment towards our Chinese customers and trading partners”.

“The strategically favourable position between the cities of Shanghai and Hangzhou as well as a good infrastructure are key advantages of the new location.
