Near miss in Russia

A truck crane overturned in Yoshkar-Ola, in Russia’s Mari El Republic, last week, while lifting over traffic, while short rigged, amazingly no one was hurt in the incident.

A car approaching the scene as the incident occurred was equipped with a dash cam which clearly captures the scene as the overturn as it happened. The crane is lifting building materials into the grounds of a building undergoing refurbishment.

The overturned crane

The crane operator said that he did not fully extend his swing-out outriggers in order not to block part of the road, and that he then exceeded the radius possible with the outriggers retracted, causing the crane to overturn. The boom landed on the roof of the building causing severe damage, but thankfully all of the passing motorists were able to stop in time leaving this incident miraculously injury free
