What traffic plan?

Spotted in London at the weekend, a man using a boom lift in the street, with no attempt to warn or alert or keep passing motorists away from the lift. At least the platform, A well presented Niftylift HR21 from JMS, was bright orange and visible!

In the words of our correspondent: “Of all of the death wish incidents that one sees, this, for me is way up there. This machine was spotted working in south east London on Saturday. Having gone to the trouble of getting 'The right machine for the job' the whole premise has been undone through classic operator error or lack of judgement - you decide.”

Working in the street without a care in the world

“The rear of the machine was right on the centre line of the road, making it a perfect candidate for collision impact, given the complete absence of any traffic management. The operator, harness free, would be catapulted out of the machine onto the hard pavement if the machine was struck.”

One has to assume that this man was also working without a road traffic closure permit, or permission to operate in the street. Given that such permits usually require a details traffic safety plan. He may well have over specified the access equipment a little as well!

While the street seems quiet, it was a nice clear day, and the machine is a bright orange, it still qualifies for our Death Wish series.
