New products from Nationwide Platforms
The UK’s largest access rental company Nationwide Platforms launched three new products at its Working at Height Best Practice Forum today.
The products - all developed by the Lavendon group company BlueSky - include SkyScreen, SkyTel and SkySiren PCS for scissor lifts, all aimed at improving safety when using aerial work platforms.
SkyScreen is a lightweight mesh which fully encloses the basket to provide protection from objects dropped from height such as tools and materials. Suitable for 6ft and 8ft baskets, the product has been wind tested and can be used outside in speeds of up to 12 metres a second. As well as retaining visibility, it is also compatible with a range of other products fixed to the basket such as material handling attachments. The product is readily available for hire throughout the UK.

SkyTel is a material handling attachment designed for safer and more efficient handling of mobile telecom antennas. Weighing just 40kg, the CE-marked device can be fitted into the basket of a range of truck mounted platforms with working heights between 22 and 70 metres. The unit features 270 degree rotation, 200mm radius adjustment and a lightweight aluminium chain block. Nationwide says it can lift antennas weighing up to 150kg and has also been future-proofed for larger and heavier antennas.

The latest generation of antennas are needed for fast reliable and stable network capacities but are noticeably heavier and larger in size. The new product allows installation to be carried out safely and in a productive and cost effective by reducing the number of riggers required to install an antenna and the potential to replace the need for alternative, often more costly installation methods.
The third product unveiled is the SkySiren PCS (Pre-Crush Sensing) for use on scissor lifts. The new system is a development of the SkySiren PCS for boom lifts launched at the event last year. Currently undergoing a supervised release with selected partners, full-scale production is scheduled for 2017.

SkySiren PCS (Pre-Crush Sensing) for use on scissor lifts uses a very similar system to the SkySiren PCS for boom lifts launched at the event last year.
The new system uses the same ultrasonic technology and traffic light warning system to detect and alert operators of potential entrapment hazards, and also includes the SkySiren pressure sensor device to provide a double protection against entrapment.
