Hird relocates and expands
UK crane and access sales and rental company Hird has relocated its Doncaster depot to a large new facility and expanded its rental fleet.
The new facility is located on a 1.5 acre site, just two miles from its old Doncaster premises, and includes three large new workshops, undercover storage for electric machines and a good sized yard for the storage of larger machines. The company moved into the old premises six years ago, but the move within the city was necessitated by the need for more space to meet current demand and in preparation for further expansion.

The new Hird 'super depot'
In conjunction with the relocation the company has invested heavily in new equipment to substantially increase the local rental fleet, doubling the number of aerial lifts based in the area.
It has also taken delivery of several new 1.7 tonne Maeda MC174 and 3.8 tonne MC405 spider cranes, and has a new eight tonne MC815 on order for delivery in the next month or two. The new location also provides a more central location for the company's growing glass handling business, and a full range of vacuum lifters and Winlet glazing robots and ancillaries will be available for rent.
The new facility also includes a substantial all new state of the art training centre, allowing the company to increase the number of courses it offers which include IPAF, PASMA, LEEA, CSCS and other courses.

Hird's new Doncaster 'super depot' has plenty of space for the expanded rental fleet
Managing director Phil Hird said: “Over the last few months we have worked hard at creating this super hub and getting all of the products into place before targeting new customers in the north and west, but finally we are operational and we are already seeing the benefits. The complete stock of our new access platforms is already highly utilised and I have just placed a further order for more Maeda mini cranes as we are running short already. This is exciting times for the company.”
