Huisman creates bearing record
Dutch heavy crane, marine and offshore equipment manufacturer Huisman has produced the world’s largest bearing type slew ring at its facility in Xiamen, China.
The two 30 metre diameter roller bearings are being built for two 10,000 tonne/metre Huisman cranes which are currently under construction for Dutch offshore oil & gas contractor Heerema’s new semi-submersible crane vessel Sleipnir. The assembly of the first bearing has been completed with the second scheduled to start in March.

The world’s first 30 metre diameter bearing
Huisman claims that using a large roller bearing provides a substantial weight saving compared to more traditional large diameter slewing systems such as steel wheeled bogies. The two bearings are segmented, and the design allows for inspection of the rollers without disassembly of the bearing.
