Pallet and forks made worse

Spotted in London, UK, earlier today a man working from a pallet on the forks of a lift, but on this occasion not even a forklift or telehandler – but a hand operated mobile material lift!

The man and his ‘accomplices’ appear to be working on the first floor windows, rather than use a scaffold tower, aerial lift or even a decent ladder they have employed a Genie material lift and simply put a pallet on the forks. In addition to the normal risks associated with a platform on the forks of a lift truck, this lightweight unit has nothing like the stability required for a work platform – the sidewalk/pavement is unlikely to be level and the chances of an overturn, not to mention falling off the unprotected platform are high.

Pallet and forks but this time on a lightweight material lift

What is worse is that the project falls under the control of a major building contractor. In the words of our correspondent: “Seen today in London, major building contractor in charge but didn't say anything cos it wasn't in the site.”
Definitely one for our Death Wish series
