Liebherrs for Carribean
Liebherr has delivered new a number of maritime cranes to Puerto Rico, Jamaica and the Bahamas.
Puerto Rican logistics company Crowley Maritime has taken delivery of three ship to shore container cranes to Isla Grande Terminal at the Port of San Juan. The 65 tonne crane has an outreach of 39.62 metres, a lift over rail height of 35 metres and a back reach of 15.54 metres.
Liebherr Container Cranes sales and marketing manager Gerry Bunyan said: “This is our first order to the island of Puerto Rico and we are happy to play a part in helping to improve the shipping services to the people on the island. The cranes were designed and manufactured in our Irish facility, where we have been making container cranes since the 1960s, and incorporate the latest technology including semi-automatic mode which maximises the efficiency of container handling.”

The company has also delivered two mobile harbour cranes, a 144 tonne LHM 550 and a 208 tonne LHM 600 to Bahamas container port Freeport Container Port. The cranes were delivered to the port, operated by Hutchison Port Holdings, after Hurricane Matthew damaged port machinery, replacing two ship to shore cranes that were wrecked by the storm.
Liebherr said: “They are very happy with the performance of the cranes. We demonstrated to Freeport Container Port/Hutchison that we are able to help when they needed us and that we are the right one to ask when it comes to nearly impossible challenges.”

Jamaican terminal operator Kingston Wharves has also taken delivery of a 208 tonne Liebherr LHM 600 mobile harbour crane for the multipurpose terminal at the Port of Kingston. The crane is the biggest being operated in the Caribbean, and is equipped with an elongated tower extension of 12 metres to increase safety thanks to a higher position of the tower cab of 37 metres. It has a maximum radius of 58 metres and is able to handle fully loaded containers in the 19th container row across a ship. The new LHM joins an LHM 550 high-rise version at the terminal.
