First Hups for Australia

The first two Potain Hup self-erecting cranes to arrive in Australia have been delivered to Active Crane Hire of New South Wales.

The new cranes went straight to work on a seven storey residential development in the Ryde, area of Sydney.

The Hup 32-37 which was launched last year, has a maximum capacity of four tonnes and can handle 1,000kg at its 32 metre jib tip. Its 2.25 metre tail swing and compact footprint allow it to be positioned closer to buildings. The jib can luff to three positions - 10, 20 or 30 degrees above horizontal , while an all new radio remote controller features a large colour screen and easy-to-use ‘jog dial’ navigation New Smart Set Up software displays simple on screen, step by step information during erection.

Active managing director Hermann Buchberger said: “Unlike most cranes used for low rise construction, the Hup 32-27 has a 27 metre jib height, meaning it fits above the local tree line, which tends to be around 21 metres. It is also compact enough that if we need to install it underneath a tower crane on an existing site, we can do that. This can eliminate the need to rearrange cranes on site. The Hup fills a gap between large self-erecting cranes and small tower cranes. It is small and flexible enough to handle construction work for four-story to seven-story developments.”

Active Crane Hire, based in Somersby, New South Wales, is one of the largest tower crane rental companies in Australia, with a fleet of top slewing and self-erecting tower cranes.
