Norwegian airline Air Shuttle has taken delivery of a four tonne Unic URW-547 spider crane.
The URW-547 features an 18 metre main boom, providing a maximum tip height of 19.5 metres, and weighs just over five tonnes. The crane was sold and delivered by Unic's Norwegian distributor Knutsen Maskin, and will be used for service and maintenance work on the aircraft.

Knutsen Maskin sales representative Anders Kiel said: “The fact that the design of the aircraft hangars don’t allow overhead cranes normally makes the service and maintenance work on the aircrafts quite a challenge. But the Unic cranes are extremely portable and quick to set up and versatile making them ideal for a such applications. With the 400 volt system and radio remote control the advantages of the spider crane compared to other solutions made the choice for the customer easy. We are delighted of this delivery to Norwegian Air Shuttle and we are happy that our cranes are getting used in more and more areas.”
Unic Cranes Europe chief executive Graeme Riley added: “Unic cranes are proving their worth as practical lifting solutions for projects in the aviation industry. Unic spider cranes have already been hired and sold to customers working in some of Europe’s major airports, to provide quick and safe solutions for lifting aircraft parts during important maintenance work. We know the URW-547 will be a welcomed addition to Norwegian Air Shuttles’ maintenance fleet.”
