Big Demag ATs for Scholpp
German rental company Scholpp Kran und Transport has taken delivery of a 220 tonne Demag AC 220-5 All Terrain crane, with a 300 tonne AC 300-6 and a 700 tonne AC 700-9 on order.
The five axle AC 220-5 features an eight section 78 metre main boom, plus an 11.4 to 21 metre bi-fold swingaway extension for a 99 metre maximum tip height. It is the second AC 220-5 in the company’s fleet, with the first one being delivered
earlier this year. As with the first AC 220-5, the new crane will be used at German chemical producer BASF’s location in Ludwigshafen.

The six axle AC 300-6 has an 80 metre main boom plus a 21 metre extension, with up to 40 degrees of offset, providing a maximum tip height of 118 metres. The nine axle AC 700-9 features a five section 60 metre main boom and can be rigged with a 96 metre luffing jib and Sideways Superlift attachment and up to 160 tonnes of counterweight with a maximum tip height of just under 150 metres.
Head of operations and Stuttgart regional manager Stephan Burkhardt said: “The first AC 220-5 won us over with its reliability. There were no breakdowns or malfunctions whatsoever, and the crane’s boom length is something to behold, so deciding on another unit of the same model was pretty straightforward.”
“Having two AC 220-5 cranes will enable us to be more flexible when we need to temporarily remove one of them from service, etc. And in the tight space conditions at the site, the IC-1 Plus control system and its ease of use have proven to be invaluable, so we hope that we’ll be able to do our work even more efficiently.”
“We are really happy to see the Demag brand come back. It’s a historic brand with a lot going for it, and that was a big factor in our decision to keep buying Demag products.”
