Crane for Italian Job
Italian contractor Gruppo Building has used a crane to help create an ‘art installation’ as part of the Artissima contemporary art fair in Turin this month.
The company has built a replica of the bus from the film ‘The Italian Job’ to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its release.
A Simma tower crane - acquired by Potain in the 1990s - lifted the bus and its support frame onto the roof of the Domus Lascaris building in central Turin.

The bus appears to be teetering over the edge of the building 20 metres above street level. The installation, entitled Hang On A Minute Lads… I’ve Got A Great Idea, was created by English sculptor Richard Wilson along with Mark Hinchcliffe and Heidi Donohoe.

Gruppo Building president Piero Boffa said: “Every time we renovate a building, we always think of creating art works and installations that enhance the beauty of architecture by attracting as many viewers as possible.”

The bus will be on display until early December
Note the use of large ladders in the background, the high A-frame ladder looks as though it is set up on planks and the man is standing on the top rungs, you really would not want that to go over! Perhaps this ought to have been a Death Wish?

Isn’t this the same bus that Coussens Cranes, placed on the De La Warr in 2012?
Not really a new idea.
