Sixth GMK6300 for Tiong Woon
Singapore based heavy lifting and haulage company Tiong Woon Crane & Transport has taken delivery of the first updated 300 tonne Grove GMK6300L All Terrain crane - the GMK6300L-1 - in South East Asia, having purchased five GMK6300L units back in 2014 – see:
five 300t Groves for Singapore.
Succeeding to the GMK6300L, the six axle GMK6300L-1 has an 80 metre main boom and up to 37 metres of extension, giving a maximum tip height of 120 metres. Features include the company’s Megatrak suspension, all-wheel steering and counterweight and auxiliary hoists that are compatible with the GMK5180-1, GMK5200-1, GMK5250L and GMK6300L.
Upon taking delivery, the new crane went straight to work on Shell Jurong Island, where it is lifting replacement parts, weighing up to 10 tonnes, at the largest Shell refinery in the Asia Pacific region.

Michael Ang, deputy chief executive at Tiong Woon, said: "The GMK6300L-1 is ideal for working in refineries as it has a boom length of 80 metres with the option of a swingaway jib between 12 and 21 metres in length. Our favourite feature on the Grove All Terrain crane is the boom length and its ability to travel with up to 21 tonne counterweight on board the crane, which opens it up to a wider range of jobs.”
“We selected it because of the quick lead time, the competitive pricing and the fact that we previously purchased five GMK6300L units, the predecessor of the GMK6300L-1, so there’s an existing relationship with Manitowoc and the crane has a proven track record with us.”
Based in Singapore, Tiong Woon serves the oil and gas, petrochemical, infrastructure, and construction sectors throughout South East Asia as well as in India, China and Saudi Arabia. The company is also the distributor for IHI crawler cranes, XCMG crawler and All Terrain cranes, and Zoomlion tower cranes in a number of markets.
