The crane is apparently a 3,000 ton (2,721 tonne) PC-42 HVY crane, with 82 metre boom, capable of handling its maximum capacity at 27 metres radius. Reports suggest a failure in the boom hoist rope or winch, which allowed the boom to drop with the load on the hook.
The jacket has remained buoyant and has been towed to wards a yard in the Mumbai area for salvage. The ship is expected to follow.
If we receive any further information we will update this item.

On second thoughts they were lucky it was a jacket with buoyancy still intact and not a module which could have been a lot worse.Thankfully no lives were lost.

There does seem to be a problem with offshore cranes keeping hold of there boom hoist cables at the moment. !!!!1
