800t Liebherr crawler for SKV
US crane rental and mining equipment repair company SKV Crane & Rigging took delivery of an 800 tonne Liebherr LR 1800-1.0 lattice crawler crane at Conexpo last week.
The LR 1800-1.0 can be rigged with a main boom of up to 180 metres, when equipped with derrick boom and suspended ballast, and topped with a 39 metre fixed offset jib for a maximum system length of 219 metres. Maximum boom without the back mast is 114 metres. A 102 metre luffing jib is also available and can be combined with 108 metres of main boom, the 39 metre derrick boom and VarioTray suspended counterweight system. The boom and jib sections come in three different dimensions allowing them to be stored inside each other, while the base machine components are all under three metres, for more efficient transport. The crane’s first contract is a wind project in Wyoming.

Stephen Vinot (L) of SKV receives the handover key from Daniel Pitzer of Liebherr
SKV operations manager Stephen Vinot said: “I feel the LR 1800 was the best choice for the upcoming projects in our area. This is due to its easy mobilisation and setup, its infield mobility without a derrick, lower ground bearing pressure and the flexibility to add a derrick and luffing jib for larger projects. Our first project with the LR 1800 will be with Mortenson in Wyoming and we look forward to supporting wind energy and petroleum projects.”
