First US GMK 5250XL for Maxim
US crane rental company Maxim Crane Works has ordered the first five axle 250 tonne Grove GMK5250XL-1 All Terrain crane in North America.
Launched at Bauma last year it made its US debut at Conexpo earlier this month. The GMK 5250XL ‘extra long’ is an updated version of the company’s GMK5250L with an eight section 78.5 metres main boom - 8.5 metres more the regular L model - topped by an 18 metre bi-fold swingaway extension that can be extended with additional inserts to 34 metres. Features include the company’s MAXbase variable outrigger setup, Megatrak suspension with all wheel steering and Twin lock boom pinning system.

The Grove GMK 5250XL
The deal was agreed at Conexpo, where Maxim was also presented with an award for being the highest spending buyer of Potain tower cranes in North America for the past three years.
Maxim runs a fleet of around 2,600 cranes from 50 locations across North America. The company recently appointed Michael Kneeland, of United Rentals, as its new chairman – see:
