Crane overturn traps operator
A six axle All Terrain crane overturned yesterday afternoon on a road construction site in Northern Ireland.
The crane, owned by Quigley Crane Hire, was apparently lifting bridge beams on a section of the dualling upgrade to the A-6 between Derry/Londonderry and Dungiven. The ground conditions on site are said to be challenging – but there is no indication at this stage what might have caused the overturn.

The man was trapped for several hours but the emergency services response included a specialist rescue team with lifting and cutting gear. The Air Ambulance helicopter was also scrambled, having been grounded last week to free up staff to support the Covid-19 emergency.

The trapped man was said to be conscious and we assume that he was eventually extracted safely. We will update this item when we learn more.
