New chief for ABP
Associated British Ports Holdings (ABP) has appointed a new chief executive. Peter Jones, formerly chief executive of Mersey Docks & Harbour Company (MDHC), will take over on 1 April 2007. He replaces Bo Lerenius, 60, who is retiring at the end of March, after eight years in the role.

Peter Jones
Jones, 52, has had a long and successful career in the ports industry. Most recently, he held the post of chief executive of MDHC, which owns and operates the Ports of Liverpool, Heysham and the Medway ports of Sheerness and Chatham.
Jones is also a non-executive director of Through Transport Mutual Insurance; he has also served as a non-executive director of the United Kingdom Major Ports Group, the leading port-industry trade association, and as a Member of the Bank of England’s North-West Quarterly Panel. He has a BA in Modern History from Oxford University and an MSc in Management from the University of Salford.

Peter Jones is a recognisably strong figure in the ports industry and he will bring his enviable experience with him to ABP."
