All electric JLG scissor enters production
JLG has started production of the electric Davinci AE1932 scissor lift that it unveiled at Conexpo last March for both North America and Europe.
The AE1932 is the first JLG lift in a new DaVinci range of all electric lifts designed from the ground up in order to maximise the latest technology. As such the company has managed to eliminate all hoses, with an electromechanical steering and lift cylinders. Other than that, it is a classic 19ft unit in terms of working height at 7.8 metres, overall width at 812mm, overall length at 1.74 metres and stowed height of 2.11 metres - reduced to just under two metres with the Quikfold guardrails. Maximum platform capacity however is better than average at 275kg, while the machine’s overall weight is 1,565kg. The overall platform width is 810mm, almost the same as the machine’s width, while a 910mm deck extension is standard.

The new JLG AE 1932 is the first in the DaVinci range
Drive comes from AC electric wheel motors, each of which is controlled independently for reduced tyre wear or problems when working on sensitive floor surfaces. JLG’s mobile control also allows users to operate the machine from a smart phone when stowed for safe loading and unloading.
The stowed machine is fast at 4.0mph - 6.44kph - while the elevated drive speed slows down progressively as the platform is raised, rather than dropping immediately to the lowest regulated speed at lift off. It also uses a single, maintenance free 24 volt/72Ah lithium-ion battery which can fully charge in around three and a half hours, with the potential for opportunity top up charging during breaks. In addition, power is generated when the platform is lowered, providing a small top up to the battery which is expected to have a practical working life of at least 10 years.

The new machine has no hydraulics whatsoever
The AE1932 joins the two other 19ft scissor lifts in the manufacturers line with the hydraulic drive R1932 ‘Rental’ spec machine and the electric drive ES1932.
Rafael Nunez, senior product manager for scissor lifts, said: “JLG electric drive scissors have long been accepted as the benchmark in the industry when it comes to performance. When customers asked us to reduce their maintenance costs and to help them minimise leaks, we wanted to be progressive and set a new benchmark, so we developed a scissor that didn’t just contain leaks but one that eliminated them altogether. The Davinci AE1932 is an intelligent machine that conducts self-diagnostics and allows operators to test all systems on their mobile device. This eliminates the more traditional handheld analyzer. Having the ability to proactively keep track of a machine’s health improves the total cost of ownership, an equation JLG is committed to improving.”
Director of engineering Shashank Bhatia added: “The technology that we have developed is robust and timely as it relates to the change we are seeing in consumer behaviour and an increasingly stringent regulatory environment. When applied to the AE1932, this new technology allows us to deliver a scissor solution with exceptional productivity and minimal maintenance.”
