Eng luffer for Concrane
Canadian tower crane rental company Concrane Equipment has taken delivery of a 25 tonne Eng EDKH 185 hydraulic luffing tower/derrick crane.
Built in Italy by Eng Cranes, the EDKH 185 has a maximum jib of 35 metres with a jib tip capacity of 4.2 tonnes in two fall mode, while its maximum capacity can be taken to a radius of 12 metres. It offers tower heights up to 63 metres and a maximum under hook height of 87.6 metres when the jib is luffed 86 degrees from horizontal. It can also be safely left at 85 degrees when out of service.
A 42kW hoist can handle up to 1000 metres of rope and offers speeds of up to 58 metres a minute. Features include a self-dismantling jib system, a slewing radius of 2.5 metres and the ability to be installed directly on legs or mounted on a tower. Upon delivery the crane was erected on a space restricted construction site in Toronto city centre.

Concrane general manager Daniel Wright, said: “A customer approached us with a job in downtown Toronto located between two existing buildings. It’s a very tight space so we needed a crane that would fit, but also have the capacity to be able to do the job. The EDHK185 fit our requirements perfectly. The crane has no counterjib—plus, when the jib is up, the tip is only 4.1 metres from the centre of the tower so the crane can turn without fear of hitting the buildings it’s erected between.”

“The crane also has no apex alleviating issues with air rights when the boom is down. Toronto, like any other major city, has limited space and a lot of people occupying it. Any available plot of land is being built on and many are in very tight or awkward spaces. This versatile crane is the solution to many forming contractors’ frustrations. My grandfather Ricky Redigonda, has branded the EDKH 185 as a ‘special crane for a special job’ and it has absolutely lived up to that.”
Based in Toronto, Ontario, Concrane Equipment is associated with Concrane Sales, which was appointed the Eng Crane distributor for Ontario, Canada, last May. The company also has an associated service company, Toronto Crane Service.
Eng Cranes is based in Reggio Emilia, Italy, with a location in San Francisco, California. The company offers a range of flat top, luffer, derrick and self-erecting tower cranes as well as manufacturing many of its own components.
