HO expands crane operation

German towing and recovery company HO Abschleppdienst has taken delivery of a 200 tonne Tadano ATF 200-5.1 All Terrain crane as it looks to expand its crane rental business.

The five axle ATF 200-5.1 features a six section 60 metre main boom and a 5.8 to 36 metre hydraulic luffing swingaway extension to offer a maximum underhook height of 97 metres. Where permitted it can travel with 12 tonnes of counterweight on 1.6 tonne axle loads, or alternatively on 12 tonne axle loads with the counterweight removed. A single support vehicle is able to carry 24 tonnes of counterweight, while the use of a second allows for its full 50 tonne counterweight.

The company said it purchased the crane in preparation for the acquisition of an unnamed company which will result in "significantly more crane business rather than towing work going forward."

HO managing director Wladimir Habenstein, said: “We are currently in the process of taking over another company. This new venture means we have to add to our existing fleet with an incredibly powerful and also very flexible crane. Since we already have a number of Tadano cranes in our yard and have always been more than happy with them, we have decided to go for the new 200 tonne model – not least because it offers a great all-round package. It is incredibly easy to work with even on a small radius, whether we’re rescuing vehicles or putting up cellar walls. It’s also our first new crane that complies with the new emissions standard.”

Founded in 2014, HO offers towing and recovery services throughout greater Regensburg, upper Palatinate and lower Bavaria from its two locations in Regensburg. It has a fleet of transport and recovery vehicles as well as a number of All Terrain and loader cranes.
