Roger Dagher, chief communication officer for United Development Company (UDC), Qatar’s largest developer, which is responsible for the overall Pearl-Qatar development, said: “This is a very unfortunate incident, this tower was not UDC-owned or developed but we are investigating with the developer and contractor involved how such an accident could have occurred.”

“We are taking all necessary measures to ensure developers and contractors strictly adhere to all of UDC’s high safety standards and procedures in order to prevent similar accidents from occurring in the future.”

“UDC has an exceptional work safety record. In over three years of construction at The Pearl-Qatar we have never had a major work-related accident. We take all matters of health and safety very seriously and are saddened by this evening’s incident,” he added.
