More crane guidance documents

The International Crane Stakeholders Assembly (ICSA) held a virtual meeting in February to continue their work on crane safety guidance documents last discussed at the assembly’s meeting at Conexpo last March.

At the top of this year's meeting agenda was work on the latest three guidance documents, which include, Mobile Crane Ground Preparation for Wind Farm Construction, Working with Mobile Cranes on Floating Barges and Using Mobile Cranes for Pile Driving/Extraction Work.

Discussions at the meeting focused on timelines for completion of mid to late summer of this year. The next meeting of the group will be held on June 15th in order to continue guidance document development.

The ICSA has already completed three guidance documents including: Leaving Mobile Cranes Unattended, Lifting of Persons with Mobile Cranes and Lifting a Load with Several Mobile Cranes. These documents are available on the ICSA website as well as the websites of member organisations.

Other global topics of concern for the global crane industry included regional standards and regulations, weighing mobile cranes with portable scales, and data loggers.

The ICSA includes seven associations which invest their time and expertise to develop guidance documents and communications promoting safe, uniform operations throughout the global crane industry. They are: the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), The Crane Industry Council of Australia (CICA), the Crane Rental Association of Canada (CRAC), The European Association of Abnormal Road Transport & Mobile Cranes (ESTA), the European Federation of Material Handling (FEM), the Japan Crane Association (JCA) and the Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA).
