The Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) has appointed Duncan Barrier as technical engineer.

Barrier joins LEEA after 16 years as technical manager for UK safety and engineering company Checkmate Lifting and Safety, owned by Pure Safety Group under the Guardian banner. During his career he has won the Queen’s Award for Innovation and sat on several CEN standards development committees, as well as the LEEA technical committee and lifting accessories working group.

As part of the technical team, he will work on the revision of the EN hand operated crane and the EN 13155 non-fixed load lifting attachments standards alongside LEEA’s head of technical services, Ben Dobbs.

Dobbs said: “LEEA’s expansion globally has seen a considerable increase in demand from its members on the LTT and the services it provides, so the association made the decision to recruit a new member to the team to help maintain and ensure the high quality service our members expect. Following a rigorous recruitment process we are pleased to have Duncan join the team. His expertise with respect to PPE means that the LTT is now also in a position to support its members in this area through the triage service. As such he will maintain current position on the BSi mirror committees.”

Established in 1944, LEEA campaigns for higher standards of safety and professionalism within the lifting industry worldwide and provides services such as training, accreditation and expert technical advice on a global basis.
