Tower crane collapses in Shanghai
A 100 metre plus tower crane collapsed in downtown Shanghai yesterday when the jib pendants apparently failed while the crane was being dismantled.
The cranes 30 metre jib crashed down on to the high rise tower block it had been working on leaving the jib dangling precariously over the side of the building. The accident also caused the tower to buckle although the counterweight and back mast remained in place.

Fortunately no one was injured in the incident and engineers launched emergency measures to anchor the dangling jib while a 500 tonne mobile crane was called in to remove it.
The debris has apparently been removed by a mobile crane this morning, some 24 hours after the accident occurred.
