104m Bronto for Spain

Spanish crane and access rental company Grúas Estación has taken delivery of a 104 metre Bronto Skylift S104HLA truck mounted platform.

The new platform is the largest in Spain and one of three platforms based in the country with working heights of more than 100 metres. It nudges aside a 90 metre Bronto S90HLA as the company’s flagship work platform.

The new 104m Bronto

This new machine, purchased through Bronto’s Toledo based distributor LKW Lift, has a working height of 104 metres with a maximum outreach of 33 metres at an up & over height of 17 metres, or 25 metres outreach at an up & over height of 63 metres. Maximum capacity is 700kg. Grúas Estación specified the machine with the optional 3.8 metre wide extending platform, along with the 400kg platform mounted winch and davit. Mounted on a Volvo chassis it has an overall weight of the machine is 64 tonnes, spread over six axles, four of which are driven.

The company is based in Padrón, south of Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, north west Spain with four further locations in Galicia, in Santiago, Pontevedra, A Coruña and Lugo. It expects much of the demand for the new platform to come from the wind power industry across the Galicia region. The new Bronto went straight to work and has already completed several jobs, where its height and reach were required.

One of the first jobs for the new platform

Technical director Carlos Mosquera Portas said: “Galicia has more than 150 wind farms in operation, which creates a market for maintenance and repair work which has driven our decisions to purchasing machinery to cover these needs. Bronto platforms score highly in terms of safety and reliability, while LKW is also a reliable partner wen it comes to service and support. The new Bronto will be kept busy throughout the summer period with back to back jobs, which can mean that staff and machinery spending weeks on the road without returning to base.”

Grúas Estación has a fleet of around 300 aerial lifts in its fleet, including 15 truck mounted lifts of 45 metres of more. It also has approximately 60 mobile cranes.
