Timber yard wins claim
An Australian timber company, Gunns Forest Products, has won a claim and been awarded over $280,000 ($233/£118,000) after the collapse of a log handling crane at its Hampshire woodchip mill nine years ago.
The claim was made against the manufacturer, Fulghum industries Inc of Georgia and New Zealand based Grayson Engineering.
In the Hobart Supreme Court, Justice Alan Blow found that both Fulghum and Grayson were responsible for the failure of the crane, due to having supplied and installed defective parts.
The crane was lifting about 14 tonnes of logs at the time it collapsed in June 1998.
