Three STSs for Maher

US container operator Maher Terminals has ordered three Liebherr ship to shore cranes for the Port of New York & New Jersey.

Manufactured by Liebherr Container Cranes in Ireland, the cranes offer a horizontal reach of 69.5 metres, a lift height of 53.3 metres, a span of 30.5 metres and a back reach of 22.9 metres. Joining eight Liebherr STS cranes, the company claims the new cranes are able to handle the world’s largest container vessels.

The new cranes form part of Maher’s plans for the port to become net zero by 2040, and include regenerative power systems that use functions such as load lower to generate electricity that can feed back into the grid. The use of lighter weight high tensile steel helps reduce weight and save energy in combination with the manufacturer's Liduro drive system that optimises energy and power management. Finally all work lights are LED.
