110t Liebherr for Colonia

German crane rental and heavy haulage company Colonia Spezialfahrzeuge has taken delivery of a 110 tonne LTM 1110-5.1 All Terrain crane.

Replacing an aging 100 tonne LTM 1100/1 in its fleet, the five axle LTM 1110-5.1 features a seven section 60 metre main boom plus a 10.8 to 19 metre bi-fold swingaway extension. Two seven metre lattice extensions can be added to offer a maximum tip height of almost 96 metres. It can travel with 13.1 tonnes of counterweight within 12 tonne axle loads or all 29 tonnes within 16 tonne axle loads.

The new crane closes the gap between the company’s 100 and 130 tonne models and will be predominately be used within Germany’s ‘chemicals belt’ around Cologne, Leverkusen, Dormagen and Krefeld, where more than 260 chemical companies and production facilities are located.

Managing director, Jürgen Oprée, said: “The LTM 1110-5.1 delivers excellent lifting capacity values using the counterweights it carries on the road. That is a major benefit for us because we can obtain annual road licences for our main catchment area for vehicles with a gross weight of up to 60 tonnes. We are located in the middle of the chemicals belt, the LTM 1110-5.1 stands out for these jobs due to its high performance, long telescopic boom and excellent manoeuvrability.”

Established as a haulage company in 1945 with a tractor and home-built trailer, Colonia Spezialfahrzeuge Gottfried Schönges added its first mobile cranes to its fleet in the 1960s. Last year, it celebrated 75 years in business with the addition of its first crawler crane, an 800 tonne Liebherr LR 1800-1.0.
