UK’s first new LTC 1050-3.1
UK-based McGovern Crane Hire has taken delivery of the UK’s first Liebherr LTC 1050-3.1 city type crane with the new rope type telescope system and RemoteDrive function.
Launched last year the new shorter boom option on the LTC 1050-3.1 uses a synchronised rope telescope system which significantly increases the telescope speed and features two boom extension modes: ‘Fast mode’ which extends each section simultaneously and ‘Strong mode’ which extends section two all the way out before extending the other smaller sections sequentially.

McGovern’s new LTC 1050-3.1 is also the first to feature RemoteDrive function that allows the operator to control all crane functions from outside of the cab, including drive and steer, enabling the operator to stand in front of the crane and manoeuvre it through a narrow access point into a tight space inside an industrial building.
The crane also includes VarioBase outrigger set up, a bi fold 7.1 to 13 metre swingaway extension which takes the maximum tip height to more than 46 metres. The 1.5 metre assembly jib is integrated into the extension and has been supplied with a set of sheaves and searcher hook.
Kieran McGovern said: “We have been waiting for this welcome update of the LTC since the LTC 1045 was released, the original pinned boom design is strong, however, our customer base requires the much quicker rope boom technology, and we are very happy to receive the first UK model. Our operator has worked for us for 15 years now and for all of these years has been operating a ‘City Class’ machine. First reports are very positive and it’s shaping up to be his new favourite compact crane. The RemoteDrive is also a welcome addition and has its own benefits on compact job sites with restricted access and/or visibility.’
